STEELMAKING SHOP
Capacity : 600,000 t/y of stainless steel
The main equipment is:
- 2 electrical furnaces with alternative current
- a 65 to 70 t A2 furnace (1962) driven by a 50 MVA furnace transformer with a primary voltage of 20 000 volts
- a 45 t A3 furnace (1974) driven by a 43 MVA furnace transformer with a primary voltage of 20 000 volts .
Hydraulic electrodes regulation driven by TAGLIAFERRI valves and EMPERE regulation (SPIE TRINDEL 1998/2002).
Furnaces process are controlled by centralized supervision and by camera monitoring .
Each furnace is equipped with a 3.5 MW door burner MORE and a BARATEC oxygen lance with a 15 to 20 Nm3/Mn flow rate.
They are supplied by clam scraps baskets loaded by a 200 t direct current 460 V travelling crane
Three transfer ladles are used to transfer the crude liquid steel from the furnaces to a 130 t AOD.
- 1 AOD
Capacity : 130 t of steel and 15 to 20 t of slag.
The AOD is equipped with a 100 Nm3/mn flow rate oxygen lance .
A KUTTNER system equipped with 24 weighing hoppers supply the AOD in ferro-alloys and scrap .
The AOD is controlled by a centralised supervision system SETCIM (revamped in 1993) and by
video cameras through industrial programmable automates.
Ladle metallurgy
For this operation after AOD taping :
The mixing is done by gas through porous plugs .
The temperature is automatically taken.
AFFIVAL machines allow the injection of wire feeding and aluminium .
There is no equipment for heating
1 Continuous casting CLECIM (1983)
Curve machine : radius 10.75 m
Slab thickness : 160 to 190 mm (possible extension to 200 mm)
Slab width : 750 to 1600 mm
Possible length : 5.9 to 14.5 m
